Syntergy Releases Sharelink Exporter Cloud Edition for OpenText Extended ECM (Content Server)

Across all organizations, a common challenge persists. The constant movement of content between Users, Cloud Platforms, Data Centers, File Systems, ECM Platforms, and Devices. This issue is further complicated by the growing volume of content stored in managed SaaS Cloud Services like Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Computing Platform, and Private Data Centers. These data centers, often locked down for security, pose restrictions on third-party software installations.

Understanding the paramount importance of data security, Syntergy has developed Sharelink Exporter Cloud Edition. This advanced tool enables you to securely export content from your 'locked down' cloud environment without the need for a server-side software installation, providing administrators and stakeholders with peace of mind and continuing to achieve their objectives.​

Sharelink Exporter extracts data from the Content Server to the file system with all the metadata information in XML format. Features include selecting versions with a cutoff date or a total number of versions and selecting specific folder hierarchies to export from the Content Server. For maximum flexibility and security, the Sharelink Exporter supports REST API and OTDS authentication methods.

With Sharelink Exporter, customers can easily migrate content from a SaaS-based Content Server infrastructures without server side installations.

Syntergy Announces SAP HANA database support - xDB for OpenText Extended ECM

Syntergy announced today that the xDB OpenText Extended ECM product now includes support for SAP HANA databases.

xDB for OpenText Content Server is a database migration solution that will migrate database content between Oracle, SQL Server, Azure SQL, SAP HANA and PostgreSQL with no downtime to your Content Server instances.​

Syntergy’s xDB solution supports cross database migration and synchronization to convert and replicate your database rapidly while preserving your data integrity, database structures and relations between tables. The migration tool is specifically designed for OpenText Content Server tables and comes pre-configured with all the Content Server Data Types, as well as specific adjustments for various migration issues that would be complicated or impossible to do with other general-purpose migration tools. Other migration tools can only do parts of a migration because they lack the experience and expertise required for a Content Server related migration.

Customers can now migrate Oracle, SQL Server and Postgres and Azure SQL to SAP HANA.

Syntergy's Response to Log4j logging library, CVE-2021-44228

On December 9, 2021, Syntergy was made aware of a vulnerability in the Java Log4j logging library, CVE-2021-44228. We immediately initiated our incident response process to determine our usage of this framework and its impact across our products and infrastructure.

Syntergy products are not directly affected by the Java Log4j vulnerability. However, the OpenText platform where our products are generally installed on are affected. OpenText has responded to the vulnerability to help protect customers. OpenText Partners and customers can monitor the response here.

Given the severity of the Log4j vulnerability, Syntergy recommends customer take action immediately to address exploitation.

Despite what seems like a mass exodus to new cloud-based enterprise file sync and share services (EFSS) such as Box, Dropbox, Office 365, G Suite, Citrix ShareFile and others, many businesses are still housing their unstructured content on-premises. Forrester reported in 2016 that 47% of companies surveyed held between 1 terabyte (TB) and 19 TBs of data locally, while 21% stored 100 TBs to 999 TBs and a further 14% stored over 1,000 TB on-premises.

Gartner has acknowledged that a single repository for unstructured content “remains unreachable” for most enterprises for a host of reasons. The analyst firm has predicted that within the next year, 50% of enterprises will manage that content using a hybrid storage model.

Syntergy Annouces Next Generation Data Loss Prevention Solutions for OpenText Content Server^®

Today Syntergy announced that it plans on releasing the next generation of Data Loss Prevention Solutions for OpenText Content Server.

Detecting strange and unusual activity in Content Server is one of the biggest concerns for administrators. With the Edward Snowden case in the forefront of anomalous activity stories, Admins must take every precaution to make sure that valuable company secrets are kept secure and away from competitors and those looking to profit from the distribution of valuable information.

And with new laws such as European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) valuable information now includes private personal information such as social security numbers, employee personal data and other private personal data. Do you know which libraries contain this sensitive content?

There are three important areas to monitor in Content Server to help uncover potential breaches of data. The first area to monitor is login activity. You need to be able to detect if a user account has been compromised. This is detected by identifying users accessing Content Server from unusual areas like a US based employee logging in with an overseas IP address. Another thing to look for are users logging in at unusual times of the day like 4:00 AM.

The next area to monitor is work habits. You need to be able to detect when people are accessing Content Server outside their normal work hours or if they have unusual work patterns. For example, is someone in finance continually accessing software development files or is a programmer consistently looking at financial data.

The final area to monitor is Content Server activity. For example, are you seeing large amounts of data downloaded at off hours? Are there an unusual amount of LiveReports being run? Which employees are accessing areas of Content Server that contain sensitive PII information such a social security numbers, birth dates, employee addresses, etc.

Monitoring Content Server activity is just one area where security can be improved. Another area to look at improving is scanning your documents to identify sensitive information. The new European Union General Data Protection Regulation is an example of the type of laws organizations are being forced to comply with. This regulation requires that organizations protect personal information and follow strict rules when storing personal information of European Union employees. Violations of the GDPR regulation could result in fines of up to EUR 20,000,000 or 4% of the company's worldwide revenue. This means organizations must be aware of which documents that have been placed into Content Server contain personal sensitive information and protect it accordingly. The only way to do that effectively is to scan the content using software designed to detect and report specific sensitive information. Being able to differentiate between a social security number and the number of a manufacturing part is a difficult but necessary feature of this type of software.
